2010 North Carolina Jazz Festival WRAP-UP

“The Party’s Over” -- The Jazz Party that is – in the language of the Traditional Jazz musicians, our style of jazz festival is called a “jazz party”, and for 2010, ours is over!

What a party it was!  Over 1300 seats were filled with jazz lovers from 16 states, Canada , Indonesia , Holland , Germany and Japan .  The stage was filled with jazz musicians from NY, TX, CA, NJ, VA, and MD, plus 2 from Brooklyn and 2 from New Orleans and 1 from Israel !  The music we call “Our National Heritage” is loved by people all over the world.

Our 30th birthday present to our faithful patrons was a jazz cruise up (and down) the Cape Fear River on the Henrietta III with plenty of Carolina Barbeque and JAZZ for all.  We had 180 patrons this year, and despite the cold and windy day—they were all nice and cozy, aboard our N’Awlins style steamboat special event.

This year local sculptress, Justine Ferrari, created a special piece of “jazz art” in honor of our 30th birthday.  She donated it to us to be raffled at the festival.  The winners of the raffle were JOHN AND SANDY QUARLES, from Leland.  They are new to our area and this was their first time at the NCJF – a special way for them to celebrate John’s birthday and enjoy one of Wilmington ’s premier cultural events.

Mark your calendars for next year’s North Carolina Jazz Festival, which will be on the THIRD weekend in February (17th – 19th).  We will have some very interesting surprises for you that will make the 2011 NCJF one not to be missed!

The NCJF is a non-profit organization, run solely by volunteers.   The event was a “team effort”, with members of the Cape Fear Jazz Society filling several of those volunteer positions, helping to make it a great success!
